Popularly known as “Baba Kool”, Emmanuel Olakunle Filani was born on September 8, 1957 in Ekiti state, Nigeria.
Kunle Filani was one of the founding fathers that shaped the ideology behind the Ona Art Movement.

His works epitomise Onaism, the art school of thought he co-founded with a number of like minds such as Moyo Okediji, Tola Wewe, Bolaji Camp bell and Tunde Nasiru.

Onaism is based on the fusion of the designs, ornamentation and motifs found in traditional Yoruba carvings and textiles with modern art pieces such as drawings and paintings.

Filani’s paintings fall under four categories: figurative expression, landscapes, partially dissected works and completely dissected compositions.
